Customers set to save £200m with up to 40% off throughout the
store
Christmas came early for households across Ireland as Debenhams today (Wednesday
16th November 2011) announced £200 million savings for its customers throughout
its stores in the UK and Ireland.
Debenhams has cut the prices of tens of thousands of items, in-store and on-line
by up to 40%, its deepest discount ever for the annual five day promotion, in
a bid to grab the lion’s share of the Christmas market.
 
The move, which will be welcomed by the cash-strapped public, heralds the start
of what pundits are predicting will be one of most frenzied Christmases in retail
in the last 10 years.
It comes against a backdrop of job insecurity and rising taxes and will no doubt
force the rest of the high street to follow suit.
